Technology & Applications
What is Airlaid?
Airlaid is a nonwoven fabric composed of fluff pulp cellulose fibers and heat-bonded bicomponent (bico) fibers.
The flexibility of the Airlaid process makes sure the combination of different raw materials in complex formulations, resulting in products with unique characteristics.
The Airlaid structure can be customized with the addition of specific raw materials and components, including:
The availability of a lap-folding machine offers customers the additional advantage of being able to choose between Airlaid delivered in rolls or in boxes of festooned material.
Dan-Web Forming Technology
For the production of Airlaid nonwovens, Main uses Dan-Web Forming technology, based on a system of multiple forming heads, which allows the creation of multilayer structures with different combinations of fibers and additives, both Airlaid Thermobonded (TBAL) and Airlaid Multibonded (MBAL).
Nonwoven Airlaid Characteristics
Airlaid products offer some very interesting characteristics and performance features, making them a versatile base for a variety of uses:
- Cloth-like appearance and texture
- Low dust release
- Remarkable tensile strength in both wet and dry conditions
Applications of Airlaid Nonwovens
The ability to produce multilayer products in-line allows MAIN to design, develop, and supply a wide variety of absorbent core products, such as feminine hygiene products, adult incontinence products, training pants, and baby diapers.
The particular flexibility of Airlaid process, exploiting the combination of different raw materials in complex formulations, also allows the production of semi-finished products for the food packaging industry.
Main has also developed increasingly innovative products for the wide market of cleaning cloths for specialized and healthcare uses: medical wipes, baby wipes, oshibori wipes, personal hygiene wipes, kitchen paper towels and industrial cleaning cloths.
A special technology has also been developed to produce colored products for transformation into tablecloths and catering products.
